how we keep fibredog accurate and fair
Editorial policy
Trust is everything to us, which is why we run a very tight ship when it comes to editorial standards and ethics. In this page we outline our commitment to fairness, accuracy, independence and clarity.

Five commitments that guide everything we publish
Clear
We explain things plainly, with tooltip explainers for jargon, so you can understand and decide with confidence.
Useful
We focus on what matters to households and make our advice practical and actionable.
Accurate
We test, verify and fact-check information so you can trust what we say.
Independent
We are free to say what we believe is best for you. We don’t accept payment for favourable coverage.
Fair
We compare providers on the same metrics so everyone gets a fair hearing.
PLAIN ENGLISH
Written by people, assisted by silicon
It’s an odd kind of statement to have to make, but it’s the 20s and here we are, having to explain we’re not robots.
You’ll notice across the entire site, the writing is conversational, it flows, there are humorous asides, and stream of consciousness sometimes takes over.
That’s because while we do use AI tools for efficiency on things like drafting placeholder layouts, coding, fixing bugs and mascot image variations, the final copy you read on the page is always human-written. Beep-boop.
Our promise
Our simple rule is that if we wouldn’t say it to a friend or family member, we won’t publish it. It’s quite easy, actually – it largely just means telling the truth, even when it’s inconvenient.
Clear advice, no waffle, all jargon explained.
We check our work at every step
Do mistakes still happen? Sure. We’re human. But…
-
Before publication
Every page is researched, tested and fact-checked before it goes live.
-
Ongoing review
We check our data weekly to get there first when things change.
-
Data first
Data defines our opinions – we don’t run on vibes or a desire to sell.
Sources, citations and external linking policy
We back up our content with reliable sources so you can trust what you read and verify it for yourself.
How we use sources
We cite sources for key facts, statistics, quotes and claims that could affect your decisions.
We link to original information wherever possible so you can read it at the source.
We use a mix of primary and secondary sources to provide accurate, balanced and up-to-date information.
Our source standards
We prefer primary sources such as regulator reports, official statistics, legal documents and provider terms.
We also use reputable publishers, academic research and industry bodies where appropriate.
If a source changes, moves or disappears, we update our content and fix or remove the link.
Commercial independence
Our recommendations are independent, evidence-based and made in the interests of our readers.
Providers cannot
buy better scores
No provider can pay to influence our rankings, ratings or editorial coverage. We do not accept payment for preferential treatment.
Commission doesn’t
control our content
Commissions or referrals will never, ever influence our recommendations, scores, advice or wording.
We use evidence to recommend and criticise
We may recommend a provider, criticise a service or highlight issues when the evidence shows it’s the right thing to do.
Corrections and updates
We work hard to get things right. When we don’t, we put it right.
- If you spot an error, we make it easy to let us know.
- We investigate and verify reported issues quickly.
- We correct mistakes and notify the person or organisation that reported it.
- You can report a mistake or bug using our contact form.
Using fibredog content, data and research
You’re welcome to reference our work with clear attribution if you follow a few simple rules.
- Credit fibredog and link back to the original page or our homepage.
- Reference our content for non-commercial purposes with proper attribution.
- Don’t copy or republish our content or present it in a way that us misleading or harmful to our site or to visitors.
- Don’t copy our content or tools or repurpose them for your own site.
Limits and uncertainty
Broadband information changes fast. Here’s how we handle it.
- Terms, routers, speeds and so forth change regularly and can vary by location.
- Tools and recommendations are guidance, not guarantees.
- You should always check final details and confirm with the provider before you buy.
- Nothing you read on fibredog was generated by AI. We do use AI to assist with planning, drafting, debugging and mascot image variations, however.
