TALKTALK VALUE FOR MONEY REVIEW
TalkTalk value for money: How good is it?
For years, this provider has TalkTalked itself up as the value-for-money provider of the big four nationals. However, rarely has it ever been the cheapest. Here we’re taking an in-depth look at what it currently offers versus that long-standing image.

Having trouble choosing a broadband provider?
No single best provider or package exists – only the best pick for you personally. Fibredog’s YourMatch™ system uses thousands of provider metrics and a lot of maths to find you your perfect match.
TalkTalk Value for Money Scorecard
Six key areas. One overall score. All calculated using our transparent methodology.
What you get as standard
The features, equipment and services included as standard, before paid add-ons, premium tiers or optional upgrades are added.
Included router quality
How much value the included router adds to the package, including Wi-Fi standard, ports, coverage and overall hardware quality.
Annual price rises
How clearly annual price rises are explained, how predictable they are, and how much they add during the minimum term.
Cost of upgrades and extras
Which useful extras cost more, which are bundled in, and whether upgrades feel sensible or too easy to overspend on.
End-of-contract pricing
What happens when the minimum term ends, whether the price jumps, and how easy it is to avoid poor rollover value.
Service guarantees
The service guarantees, speed promises, compensation rules and fault protections that apply when the connection underperforms.

Included router value
TalkTalk includes the same Wi-Fi Hub 3 with every current Full Fibre package. It’s a capable Wi-Fi 6 router with useful everyday features, although there’s no more advanced model available if you want newer Wi-Fi or faster wired connections.
TalkTalk keeps things simple with one capable router
Everyone gets the Wi-Fi Hub 3
The Wi-Fi Hub 3 comes with every current TalkTalk Full Fibre package, so you won’t receive older equipment because you chose a slower speed. It uses Wi-Fi 6, supports the usual 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels and installs its own firmware and security updates.
It covers the essentials
You get four Gigabit Ethernet ports, parental controls, a separate guest network and current WPA3 security. The Hub 3 also manages its Wi-Fi channels automatically. There’s no proper router app, but you can change its settings through your web browser.
There’s no premium router above it
TalkTalk doesn’t offer a newer router with 6GHz Wi-Fi, faster Ethernet or special controls for gaming and working from home. The Wi-Fi Hub 3 is the only current choice, even with Full Fibre 900.
Total Home Wi-Fi adds boosters around the Hub 3 if you need better coverage, but it doesn’t replace it with a more advanced router. You’re paying for Wi-Fi in more rooms, not better technology at the centre of your network.

Which TalkTalk router do you get?
TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub 3
Included with every current TalkTalk Full Fibre package.
It is a dual-band Wi-Fi 6 router with WPA3, Gigabit Ethernet and support for TalkTalk's mesh boosters.
Total Home Wi-Fi
Adds mesh boosters to the Wi-Fi Hub 3 on eligible packages.
This is a paid coverage add-on rather than a better main router, so the Wi-Fi Hub 3 remains at the centre of the network.
No premium router tier
Package speed does not change the supplied main router.
TalkTalk allows a compatible third-party router, but it does not offer another premium router at checkout.
Is TalkTalk’s included router good value for money?
Yes, for most people. The Wi-Fi Hub 3 comes with every current TalkTalk Full Fibre package, so you don’t have to choose a faster speed or pay extra to avoid being handed an older router. Wi-Fi 6, four Gigabit Ethernet ports, automatic updates and current security make it a sensible match for an ordinary busy home.
It becomes less impressive if you want premium features. There’s no 6GHz channel, no Ethernet faster than 1Gbps, no router-management app and no specialist controls for gaming or working from home. TalkTalk doesn’t offer a better router above it, either. Even so, one capable router for everyone is much fairer than saving the decent equipment for more expensive packages. The Hub 3 isn’t exceptional, but it offers good value.
