PLUSNET PACKAGES AND SPEEDS REVIEW
Plusnet packages and speeds: How good are they?
Plusnet’s package range is lean to say the least, but that doesn’t necessarily mean bad. Less choice can be helpful, but ultimately it has to come down to how good those packages actually are. Let’s take a closer look.

Having trouble choosing a broadband provider?
No single best provider or package exists – only the best pick for you personally. Fibredog’s YourMatch™ system uses thousands of provider metrics and a lot of maths to find you your perfect match.

Package range
Plusnet’s package range is beautifully simple. The names tell you the speed, the five options are sensibly spread out and every package includes the same router and security tools. Sadly, that consistency also exposes how little Plusnet now offers. The router is ancient, there’s no whole-home Wi-Fi and the cupboard is almost bare.
Plusnet has five clear packages and almost nothing to put in them
The package names couldn’t be clearer
Full Fibre 74, 145, 300, 500 and 900 tell you the advertised average download speed before you open the details. That’s exactly what a broadband package name should do. There’s no ‘Superfast’, ‘Ultrafast’ or ‘Gigafast’ label to interpret, and no second number hidden in the small print to undermine the first.
The five packages are sensibly spread out too. Full Fibre 74 sits at the bottom, 145, 300 and 500 fill the middle, and 900 provides the obvious top tier. There are no pointless near-duplicates, awkward gaps or different network versions hiding behind identical names. Plusnet makes comparing its packages exceptionally easy.
Every package gets the same basic bundle
Plusnet doesn’t save its router or security tools for people buying the fastest package. Full Fibre 74 gets the same Hub Two, Plusnet Protect, SafeGuard parental controls and broadband firewall as Full Fibre 900. Nobody has to move up the range simply to unlock something that should have been included in the first place.
That sounds more generous than it is. The Hub Two is an ageing Wi-Fi 5 router, and Plusnet has no better model for its most expensive packages. Full Fibre 900 brings a much faster connection into your home, but the equipment and extras surrounding it remain exactly the same. You’re paying for speed alone.
There’s no whole-home Wi-Fi at any price
Plusnet offers no mesh units, premium router, Wi-Fi guarantee or whole-home coverage service. None comes with the faster packages, and none can be added for an extra monthly charge. If the Hub Two can’t reach an upstairs bedroom or the far end of your home, Plusnet has no supported upgrade ready to solve it.
That’s worse than simply putting the best Wi-Fi features behind a paywall. Sky at least lets you buy WiFi Max for a newer router, mesh units and a room-by-room guarantee. Plusnet leaves you to research, buy and configure your own equipment. Its packages are cheap on extras because the useful extras don’t exist.
Security is the one worthwhile extra
Plusnet Protect is included for the first 24 months, while SafeGuard and Plusnet’s broadband firewall add parental controls and basic online protection. These are genuinely useful, they’re available across the complete Full Fibre range and you don’t need to choose a faster package or pay another monthly charge to receive them.
Beyond security, Plusnet gives us almost nothing to discuss. There’s no landline, provider email, entertainment bundle, broadband backup or static IP for new users. You can’t add a digital phone service or premium technical support either. Plusnet hasn’t created a focused collection of essentials. It has stripped broadband back to the connection itself.
Plusnet’s package ladder
How the main packages step up.
Good enough for basic needs
Sweet spot for most homes
Too fast for most homes
How to choose a Plusnet package
1. Choose the speed first
Start with what your home needs.
Try our package recommender above. Full Fibre 500 is the sensible choice for a normal home. The 74Mbps and 145Mbps packages are for lighter use, while 300Mbps is a reasonable compromise if 500Mbps costs noticeably more.
2. Check what your address gets
Plusnet Full Fibre uses Openreach.
Head over to Plusnet and enter your address. Its checker will tell you whether Full Fibre has reached your home and which speeds are available. You don't need to know anything about the network behind it.
3. Budget for better Wi-Fi
Every tier receives the same Hub Two.
Every Plusnet Full Fibre package comes with the same Hub Two. Paying for Full Fibre 900 doesn't get you a better router, and Plusnet doesn't sell its own whole-home Wi-Fi system. If your home has weak spots, allow for the cost of buying your own kit.
