Vodafone is preparing to launch an astonishing 8Gbps home broadband package before the end of 2026. Pro 4 Broadband is already being tested in real homes using CityFibre’s Full Fibre network, with Vodafone reporting download speeds of 8Gbps and uploads reaching as high as 6.5Gbps.
The company hasn’t revealed the price or confirmed which areas will receive it first. Availability will be limited to suitable parts of CityFibre’s network, which can now carry broadband at up to 8.5Gbps. Vodafone’s fastest package currently tops out at 2.2Gbps, so this isn’t a gentle upgrade. It’s a fourfold leap into the absurd.
Pro 4 comes with Vodafone’s new Ultra Hub 7+, a tri-band Wi-Fi 7 router capable of handling connections up to 10Gbps. Super Wi-Fi 7+ boosters will spread the connection around the home, while 4G Broadband Back-Up takes over if the fixed line fails. Vodafone’s Wi-Fi Guarantee and Secure Net Home protection are included too.

What does 8Gbps look like in the real world?
In perfect conditions, 8Gbps can move one gigabyte every second. A 100GB game could arrive in around one minute and 40 seconds, while a one-terabyte download would take less than 17 minutes. It could theoretically carry more than 300 separate 4K video streams at once. You could invite the entire street round and still have bandwidth left over.
Actually seeing 8Gbps on one device is another matter. An ordinary gigabit Ethernet port can use little more than an eighth of it, while even a 2.5Gbps port leaves most of the connection untouched. You’d need 10Gbps equipment, fast storage and a service willing to send data that quickly. It won’t make websites open eight times faster or magically reduce gaming lag either.
