TALKTALK PACKAGES AND SPEEDS REVIEW
TalkTalk packages and speeds: How good are they?
TalkTalk offers a lean, but well thought-out range of packages, including its innovative, if slightly baffling, variable speed package: TalkTalk U. There’s lots to talk about, so let’s get started.

Having trouble choosing a broadband provider?
No single best provider or package exists – only the best pick for you personally. Fibredog’s YourMatch™ system uses thousands of provider metrics and a lot of maths to find you your perfect match.

Package range
TalkTalk has a sensible spread of packages, clear naming and the same good router for everyone. HomeSafe and TalkTalk Mail are included across the range too. The basics are adequate rather than generous. Whole-home Wi-Fi and better security cost extra, while TalkTalk U is harder to compare than it needs to be.
The basics are fair, but useful extras cost more
Most of the names tell you exactly what you’re buying
Full Fibre 65, 150, 500 and 900 do exactly what sensible package names should. They tell you the headline download speed before you open the details. The jumps between them are meaningful too, so each package has a clear place rather than feeling like needless padding.
TalkTalk U is the exception. Its name tells you nothing about the speed, which can move between four levels according to your previous month's usage. It’s interesting, but you need to understand how it works before you can compare it properly with a fixed-speed package.
Everyone gets the same router, but little else
Every current Full Fibre package comes with the Wi-Fi Hub 3. TalkTalk doesn’t save its best router for the fastest package, hide it behind another subscription or deliberately give cheaper packages worse equipment simply because you buy less speed.
That’s fairer than the usual good-better-best setup, but the generosity ends with the main router. Fixed-speed packages don’t include a separate booster or room-by-room Wi-Fi promise. If you need help covering a larger home, Total Home Wi-Fi costs extra each month, though the Hub 3 does support your own mesh equipment if you want to go that route instead.
HomeSafe and email are included across the range
HomeSafe is included with every package, giving you parental controls, scam protection and warnings about infected websites. TalkTalk Mail is included too, with up to five email addresses while you remain an active broadband user. These are useful extras, available to everyone, not empty padding.
Neither is especially lavish. HomeSafe isn’t full antivirus software, and TalkTalk charges extra for its more complete SuperSafe protection. There’s no broadband backup, landline or premium technical support included either, so the standard package is still mostly broadband, a router and a handful of basics, whichever speed you choose.
TalkTalk U isn’t a premium package in disguise
TalkTalk U can include a Wi-Fi booster where TalkTalk decides your home needs one, but the equipment is property-dependent and can increase the monthly price. It isn’t a premium package that automatically bundles TalkTalk’s best Wi-Fi setup for everyone who chooses it, whatever their home looks like.
Calling packages are available separately, but there’s no hidden bundle of television, mobile data or backup connectivity elsewhere in the range. TalkTalk keeps things simple, which some people will prefer, but it earns little extra credit for including useful features its rivals usually charge for as optional extras.

Good enough for basic needs

How to choose a TalkTalk package
1. Choose the speed first
Start with what your home needs.
Try our package recommender above. For a normal home, 500Mbps is the sensible place to start. The 65Mbps and 150Mbps packages are better suited to smaller homes with lighter needs, while 900Mbps is for people who regularly download huge files.
2. Check what your address gets
Not every home gets the full range.
Head over to TalkTalk and enter your address. TalkTalk uses different fibre networks around the country, but you don't need to work out which one serves you. Its checker will simply show the packages you can buy.
3. Compare TalkTalk U carefully
It isn't a normal fixed-speed package.
TalkTalk U changes your speed between 65, 150, 500 and 900Mbps depending on how you've used the service. It can also include a booster for larger homes. Compare its full price with a fixed 500Mbps package and TalkTalk's separate Total Home Wi-Fi add-on.
